About
The agrivoltaic system is a photovoltaic plant that allows the continuity of agricultural activities within the plant, together with a strong power generation from renewable sources. This innovative process represents a better alternative to standard photovoltaic installations thanks to some key advantages:
- the containment of land consumption for agricultural use
- the possibility of recovering rain water to be used for irrigation activities
- the reduction of soil desertification
The plant
The photovoltaic panels are installed on uniaxial trackers whose poles support will be driven directly into the ground, so the structure is completely removable.
The system allows the maintenance of over 80% of the land for agricultural uses.
The trackers use technology to follow east-west solar exposure on a north-south horizontal rotation axis to turn the panels towards the sun in order to maximize solar radiation according to needs of crops.
The first project of AGRIFUTURE, will involve approximately 30 hectares with the aim to maximize the synergies between the two subsystems (photovoltaic and agricultural) and guarantee additional utilities compared to the energy or agricultural production separated business (improvement of the ecosystem qualities of sites, circular economy between the two components, rainwater recovery and increased overall profitability).
